I'm the Business and Financial Officer for the Office of the Chief Information Officer at The University of Georgia. My job responsibilities include:

In my younger days, I performed research on computer simulation techniques, in particular in the generation and analysis of Monte Carlo simulation data. Since moving into an administrative position in 1999, my publication rate has dropped considerably, though I still manage to "squeeze out" the occasional research paper. My academic CV, contains a list of all my publications and invited talks.

The research project that caused the biggest stir was a study of defects in random number generators commonly used in computer simulations in physics and many other fields. This research, named as one of the top science stories in 1993 by Discover Magazine, received a great deal of media coverage from some prestigous outlets (the New York Times, the BBC, Nature, and American Scientist, as examples) as well as some other "interesting" publications such as Lotto World Magazine. (That was a fun interview.... :)

Try a Google search for ferrenberg random number to get an idea of the breadth of interest in this topic.

At work I deal with large numbers. To avoid shocking my system, I try to incorporate large numbers in other parts of my life. For example here's a link to my golf handicap..... :)
